Wall-to-Wall Custom Fit Area Rugs: A New York Kind of Installation
Carpet Time custom fit area rug installation for Tribeca rental.
This month, we are highlighting a popular installation choice for many of our New York City residential clients…
Wall-to-wall custom fit area rugs. They allow for the function and look of a wall-to-wall carpet but the practicality of an area rug.
What Makes This Installation So Special in New York?
The majority of New York City residents are renters. Many lease and co-op apartments in the city include something called the 80% rule requiring residents to have 80% of their floor covered, and standard rugs usually don’t cut it. However, as renters, residents usually can not have a complete wall-to-wall installation in their homes since it requires permanent attachments.
A custom fit wall-to-wall area rug is the perfect solution to this common conflict. You can cover as much floor as your heart desires and can easily remove it from the room when needed.
And when it comes time to move out, you don’t need to say goodbye to your area rug. Even though it was custom fit to a previous room, you still have the opportunity to easily cut and refabricate it to fit your new space! Carpet Time provides the service of refabricating rugs only if the carpet/rug was purchased from us.

Queens
Our client in Astoria was hoping to reduce the noise between floors of their building. The noise from the upstairs apartment was negatively impacting the downstairs resident. Our client made the choice to install carpet to help. Read more about acoustics and flooring in this blog post!
After reaching out to us to schedule a store visit and professionally measure, our client landed on this berber carpet from Shaw Floors. We fabricated this custom rug for them one inch out from the wall over a dense acoustical pad.
A bonus is that this rug is easy to clean since it is berber!
The room has the neat look and reduced impact noise benefits of a wall-to-wall installation without the full commitment to wall-to-wall carpet. Since there is no attachment and the carpet is loosely laid over padding.
Manhattan
Another installation spotlight was completed for Susan Kloepfer’s Upper East interior design project. They consulted us for a custom cut rug in a teen’s bedroom. The leopard carpet with the floral wallpaper is a fun combination to make this room as vibrant as it is!
As similar as this installation is to the one in Queens, no two jobs are the same. You can tell us how little or how much you want the carpet from the wall, and we can make it happen!
Brooklyn
One of our clients who lived in a Brooklyn apartment rental needed a cost-effective wall to wall carpet solution because of heating issues. The bedroom’s hardwood floors were extremely cold and the room lacked proper insulation. Carpet is an exceptionally good thermal insulator. They wanted to maximize carpet coverage but without breaking the bank.
They selected a carpet remnant and provided a template to create their custom sized rug. Since they were limited to a non-permanent option as renters, this installation style works best!
Carpet Time Tip:
This client provided us with measurements/templates of their space and chose to pick up the rug to save on installation costs. At Carpet Time we are always here to help advise you on any cost saving options available when it comes to custom rugs!
